Description | Update. This has now been identified to genus level- it's a Peltigera. This beautiful black dog lichen had red tips, apothetica. See comments below. It was on the ground in a wet forest in the Otways. According to Flora of Australia volume 57 (2009) 15 Peltigera are known from Australia (Louwhoff, 2008). These lichens commonly occur in humid or moist, mainly shaded habitats, on the forest floor, or along roadsides. |
