Title Darwinia hortiorum

Description We first discovered this attractive spreading shrub early in 2008. Fred collected a sample without flowers early in the year and with the help of WA Herbarium taxonomists came to the conclusion that flowers would be necessary for identification. Our first collection record in August 2008 gave rise to the notion that this was a new plant species for Western Australia. In 2009 Kevin Thiele from WAHerbarium named this Darwinia hortiorum for us. Darwinia hortiorum grows around large granite outcrops in Monadnocks Conservation Reserve and in Boonering State Forest, Wandering. Darwinia hortiorum occurs over a restricted area and is considered to be a rare plant species. Photos: Jean November 2009
