Description | The rare Otway Black Snail Victaphanta compacta is only found in the Otway Ranges in southern Victoria. It is carnivorous, has a shiny black shell that leans to one side, and can actually be found quite easily in the mulch of the damp forests in winter. One day when searching for fungi we found quite a few piles of snail shells so something in the forest likes them, possibly a Bassian Thrush (see last photo below). |
